So the fiction writer imagines and makes up stories. A writer can dream the same dream for a long time or for the duration of the story over many days. The fiction writer takes both personal and collective history memories into account.

Mini Story/Short Story

The St. Louis's Old Courthouse Auction

(On an October 19, 2008 campaign rally, biracial Presidential candidate, Barack Obama, addressed 100,000 people on the steps of the Old Court House where Slave Auctions were once held.)

Days before the auction was to take place on the steps of the Old Court House, heralds were trying to drum up sales by promoting the quality of the goods. Right in front of this prestigious building, a temple of the legal system, potential buyers, merchants, planters and farmers were going about their business. They were minding their own business for the day. They knew the weekend spectacle or mini-carnival was about to come to town from the nearby plantations. The heralds walked up and down the steps with a long list of heads of cattle in their hands.

Small and large farming communities had an excess of heads of cattle. They could not afford to keep them on the land. They had to get rid of some of them in the next auction. Trading slaves was a quick way to make money in those times. Ox-driven carriages and wagons were loaded with extra slaves who were heading to the auction on the steps of the St. Louis Old Courthouse. After all, the planters and various brokers and middlemen had bills to pay to the bank. They could not afford to feed the new crops of slaves that were born on their farm and grew up the maturity age.

Not all slaves were transported in covered wagons to the auction site. Some slave-owners and merchants thought they could fetch higher prices by parading their goods. So wearing restraint necklaces and chained at their ankles, the heads of cattle as slaves were referred to, started walking around the streets of St Louis en route to the Steps of the Old Court House. Children and adults of the free society stopped whatever they were doing to take a good look at these men, women and children. The slave drivers were nearby on their horses. Vicious barking dogs were following them. They were there to keep the defile of misery moving forward and in check (to be continued. It is still unknown to many immigrants and health advocates. What is Gardasil's cost and safety? The Food and Drug Administration approved it in 2006. It blocks strains of the Human Papillomavirus of HPV.

For female immigrants, the requirement went into effect on August 1, 2008. In the U.S., about 4,000 women die of the disease each year. The vaccine works best if given early or before a young woman is sexually active and already might have contracted the virus.

September 2007 Hot Books: Alan Greenspan's The Age of Turbulences: Adventures in a New World

This month, there is a series of good books that will be coming out. Among them, Mr. Greenspan's book, "The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World" is sure to be a bestseller as soon it comes out tomorrow morning. In it, Greenspan criticizes the Bush Administration for not responsibly handling the nation's spending and racking up big budget deficits. Mr. Greenspan who has served more than 5 presidents before retiring last year and was replaced by Bernanke did not mince his words. He is free to say and write whatever he wants to. "Greenspan takes his own party to task for forsaking conservative principles that favor small government. "My biggest frustration remained the president's unwillingness to wield his veto against out-of-control spending," Greenspan wrote.

So far, critics are saying that it is one of his best books. It will stand as his legacy. "The Age of Turbulence is Alan Greenspan's incomparable reckoning with the nature of this new world - how we got here, what we're living through, and what lies over the horizon, for good and for ill-channeled through his own experiences working in the command room of the global economy for longer and with greater effect than any other single living figure."

Another book you may have heard so many things about is "Eat, Pray, Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert. It is a book about her search for good foods in Italy, spiritual connection or renewal in India and love in Bali where she met her future husband, a Brasilian businessman who swore he would never marry again. But in order to live with Elizabeth in the US, he had to marry her. That was the catch.

Another book I am reading is "If I Did It: The Confessions of a Killer" written by O J Simpson, but acquired and published by the friends of Fred Goldman. Lo and behold, Simpson is back in the news this weekend. He is arrested by armed robbery in Las Vegas over some memorabilia at Palace Station.

Other books to check out: Inquiry into Daniel Goleman's Social Intelligence, Raising Smart Kids and Becoming Successfu and Young Man, Go West: Eat, Pray, Love, Shop and Dance

New Rules Against IIlegal Immigrants: Employers are Responsible for Ratting Them Out

llegal Immigrants Can Choose to Stay, Work Underground or Leave; But the Choice is not Easy.

The current administration is dealing with illegal immigration. On August 10, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Michael Chertoff announced that it is up to employers to fire workers who are unable to clear up problems with their Social Security numbers within 90 days after they've been notified in a "no-match" letter. There will be heavy fines exacted against employers who turn their back on the new rules. They face fine of at least $2,200 and possible criminal penalties. These new measures clearly show that the current administration is cracking down on employers who fail to verify the legal status of their workers.

Illegal immigrants live with a perpetual fear of being deported. They have no driver's licence and no possibility of establishing credit in this country. They can not even cash a check. Some illegal immigrants resort to borrowing or stealing social security numbers. Others are just too happy to work a family member or a friend's social security number. Many illegal immigrants have tried to avoid immigration rules by working for themselves. They do gardening, home repairs, window washing, car washing, yard sales and other vocations that allow them elude detection. They may avoid living in areas with high concentration of illegal immigrants. They try to blend in until they have to speak English or get stopped by a police officer to whom they have to show their driving licence. To this date, ICE made 745 criminal arrests and 3,561 administrative arrests of employers and employees.

Are there employers who are immune from arrests? ICE is saying that nobody is immune from complying with the nation's laws, regardless of industry or location. So American farmers who crow large varieties of crops may be in trouble. Where will they find workers to work their fields? Are Americans ready to go to the field to work in the California heat to harvest peaches, nectarines, plums, pluots in the Central Valley, lettuce in Salinas, and Cotton grown all over the Valley?

The rules announced by the Bush Administration officials will require employers to fire employees unable to clear up problems with their Social Security numbers 90 days after they've been notified of such discrepancies in what is called "no-match letters." It means that hiring undocumented workers, illegal aliens has been illegal for two decades, but until now, employers have had it easy due to lack of enforcement. It also means that their employees were not held liable for fraudulent documents. Now, the rules are saying that employers who fail to comply will face fines and sanctions.

Will all the immigrants start the self-deportation process? It remains to be seen wether people who have only known the good life in this country will pack up and return to their countries of origin where they have no more roots. In some cases, some of their own countries do not want them back. Whose problems is it going to be then? Countries of origin will be highly impacted by the rush to absorb people who had left the country for decades, people who have had some criminal lifestyle and engaged in gang activities, for example. El Salvador had to absorb many gang members from major U.S. cities such as Los Angeles, San Diego and New York. They export their criminal lifestyle to their new country.

This is a wait and see time. If employers or farmers have to pay more to work their fields and harvest their crops, will the US consumers be ready to pay more at the supermarkets? In everything, there is a price to pay. Who is willing to pay $5 for a head of lettuce? Who is willing to pay double for a house built mostly by the hands of Mexican workers? There may be a domino effect coming up. Even in the high tech sector, there are illegal immigrants who are waiting for a change in the rules in the Silicon Valley.

No matter what, something must be done to regulate our immigration laws.

Oprah's Father is Cashing in with Things Unspoken

PromQuincenera Info: New York Fashion Tips

Get PhotoVideoDaily Fashion Show, Prom & Quincenera Couture, Eureopean Fashion Styles

PromQuinceanera Dresses Shops

La Petite Coquette Wedding Boutique

Things Unspoken is a memoir gossip about the media mogul. When Oprah was made aware that the book is being peddled to agents, she was shocked and disappointed. What should Oprah do? Buy the book and never publish it? Or just fill him with money? Which one should be the answer. The book is set to reveal some painful moments in the superstar's life. Most of them were already made public by herself on the show. But the father feels there are some other episodes that would rivet the public.

"Our daughter was out of hand, an unruly child," Vernon quotes Oprah's mother, Vernita, as saying, "She said she stayed out all times of the night and lied regarding her whereabouts, said she made herself known to boys," he writes.

That interesting euphemism is just the beginning.

"She had secrets," writes Oprah's father. It is published by an American citizen carrying a French passport and who was denied French citizenship on two previous attempts. Les Bienveillantes which has been acquired by HarperCollins was initially published in French by Gallimard under the pseudo of Jean Petit. So far, American Jonathan Littell has become somewhat of a celebrity in France and the French-speaking world with his first or maybe last book. Les Bienveillantes or The Kindly Ones has received two of France's highest honors, Prix Goncourt and Prix de l'a Academie Francaise. For some of us who appreciate books in other languages, we are having a good time reading a book by a Jewish American author on this side of the Atlantic.

What is this book about?

Les Bienveillantes is a memoir that is about a former SS officer who leads a hidden life in a French town. Most of the people who have read it so far have said that it is a troubling novel that causes all of kinds of conversation at work and public places. It shows the journey of SS Officer Maximillien Aue, Sturmbannführer whose mission was to improve the production of camps. Some of his superiors described him as a stubborn man who said that the inhumane does not exist. Yet, he contributed to the creation of hell on earth for thousands of Jews. That is the man Jonathan Littell was trying to bring out of his hole by talking about the wrong acts he committed in his life. Others saw him as somebody who was bragging about what he did under Hitler's regime. This book has admirators and detractors. The latter can not understand why a Jewish writer wants to be in the skin of Nazi to write this book. They wonder whether he can replicate this feast of literature. They also wonder whether his father, Robert Littell, a famous writer and author, wrote the book. They have more criticism of the 38-year-old author who refuses to give intereviews and has since has been seen in Spain playing with his child and family.

We can not wait to see this book around here. If you can read French, you will do a good job of reading in that language. Does this book make you think of late Styron's Sophie's Choice? Go ahead and read it here too

William Styron's Books

William Styron, one of the great modern writers of the US, has died. However, his books will live on. More importantly, his writings will continue to give pleasure to many people. He was one of the fine writers and storytellers whose books were read and re-read by many. He knew how to write.

Here is a list of his books just in case you are interested in reading them:

Lie Down in Darkness was written in 1951. Nine years later, he published The Confessions of Nat Turner which earned him a Pulitzer Prize. His next book came in 1979. Sophie's Choice drew a lot of fire for examing the Holocaust from the point of view of a Polish Catholic. In 1990, he released Darkness Visible: A Memoir of Darkness.

With Oil Money, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Who Loves to Read Might Make a Dent in Textbook Publishing

If Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez loves books so much, then he can do something that could help millions of students worldwide. With the oil money that keeps pouring into his country, he can help students get cheap books by supporting and/or creating a publishing company that will work with textbook teachers and publishers to lower the price. Would this not qualify as wishful thinking? Well, it could be. It may be that the president ends up reading this blog someday. One of his adherents may see it and forward a copy to him. Besides promising cheap heating oil to poor US neighborhoods, he can show his love of books by making textbooks available to millions of students and parents who just can not afford them.

==============

Promotional Considerations:
Watch a tribute at to Steve Irwin

Check the hot OprahWinfreybookclubfan: Oprahbookclubfan

Oprah Could Make Textbook Authors and Publishers Sell Cheap Textbooks to Students

May the day come when Oprah realizes what is happening in the textbook market! Please remember this blog which intends to cause publishers, authors and influential people to do something about this problem! The same way she is a major factor in the book industry, she can help alleviate the pain of college and university students who have to take loans to buy textbooks. A lot of them can not afford these books. Parents often have to foot the bills. Some teachers may not let them into their class without the right textbook. So Oprah can do something about this. If she agrees to select a textbook every day on the show with the condition that the author and publisher will lower their prices, she can make giant steps in solving this problem.

Who else can do something to help poor, hard-working-low paying students?

Just put in your two cents.

What If There Was a Cheap Textbook Store to Shop at?

Textbooks costs are keeping students away from classes. Well, they often have to get loans to be able to afford the expensive textbooks that professors and teachers assign to the class. How about finding alternative ways to buy cheap textbooks? That would be a boon to the textbook publishing. Authors of textbooks and publishers would still make money. The reason is that there will always be a demand for books. More students would be able to buy their books instead of finding a friend to study with and borrow textbooks from.

I was a student too. I found out that depending on the discipline and subject matter, textbooks prices may vary between $175 and up to $400. Now, that's a lot of money to spend on materials which may not all be used in the classroom. Students are getting frustrated over the costs. They want to have spending money to buy other stuff and put gas in their car.

I will write this blog based on my experience with the school system.

Welcome to GoBookBlogging, Writing & Publising in no Time!

Quincenera Dresses & Gowns Network

PodShoppingblog: Audioblogging Leads to Audioshopping

PromQuinceanera Dresses Shops

Use AdBrite to buy & sell ads!
